Discover the power and history of the Kanonenjagdpanzer, a formidable tank destroyer developed in West Germany post-World War II. Equipped with a robust 40.4 caliber 90mm anti-tank gun, this vehicle was a cornerstone in the defense strategies during the Cold War era. Initiated in 1960, the Kanonenjagdpanzer, also known as KJPz, was formally adopted by the German Federal Army and played a pivotal role alongside the Leopard 1. Notably, 80 units were exported to Belgium in 1975, where they were operated under the name JPK-90. However, with the introduction of the Soviet Union's T-62 and T-72, the Kanonenjagdpanzer faced criticism for its lack of power, leading to a significant upgrade to the Yaguaru series equipped with anti-tank missiles. The remaining vehicles underwent refurbishment for use as observation vehicles (Beobachtungspanzer).
