Experience Joseon Yugi, a masterful blend of copper and tin crafted using centuries-old mudflat casting techniques dating back to the 16th century. Each handmade pot carries unique character and outstanding quality, celebrated for its sterilization and antibacterial features. This artisanal pot cooks rice evenly with a fluffy, sticky texture, perfect for 3 to 4 servings.

How to use:

  1. Soak rice and ingredients.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Turn off heat and let steam for 5 minutes.
  5. Enjoy your perfectly cooked meal.

Care instructions:

  • Before first use, soak in a lukewarm water and vinegar (30:1) solution to reveal a subtle golden tint.
  • Clean using mild detergent mixed with vinegar to prevent stains and odor.
  • Discoloration or food stains from flame exposure are normal and safe.
  • After washing, dry thoroughly with a towel to avoid water stains; regular polishing will enhance the bronze sheen.
  • Use specialized yugi scrubbers (available via Kim’C Market) to gently remove stains along the grain.
  • Suitable for gas stoves; not recommended for microwave, oven, induction, or dishwasher (if used, low temperature only).

Hwang Jooyeon leads Joseon Yugi, continuing a three-generation artisan legacy. Since 1978, the family has crafted bangjja yugi bronzeware using traditional casting with copper (83.3%) and tin (16.7%), no synthetic chemicals. Each pot is hand-forged through nine detailed steps, including clay mold casting and multiple hand-trimming and polishing phases, creating unique, heirloom-quality pieces.

Since 1990, Joseon Yugi has focused on merging tradition with modern needs, producing items for contemporary living while preserving heritage techniques. They have contributed to the restoration of ritual bronze ware for the National Palace Museum of Korea’s UNESCO-recognized Jongmyo ceremonies since 2012. Today, the company continues under the guidance of six experienced artisans alongside Hwang Jooyeon.

안녕하세요. 조선유기공방 3대째 가업을 잇고 있는 황주연입니다. 1978년 시작된 본 공방은 구리 83.3%, 주석 16.7% 합금으로 에나멜 등 화학 물질을 전혀 사용하지 않고 전통 주물사 방식을 엄격히 지켜 수작업으로 제작합니다. 총 9단계 주물, 가질, 연마 과정을 거쳐 세상에 하나뿐인 완성도 높은 제품을 만듭니다.

1990년부터 전통과 현대를 아우르는 디자인으로 생활식기를 제작해 왔으며, 2012년부터는 국립고궁박물관과 함께 종묘제례 유물 복원 업무에 참여해 왔습니다. 현재는 1978년부터 함께한 여섯 명의 장인들과 함께 전통 기술을 계승하며 공방을 이끌고 있습니다.
