Drummer Dave Lombardo has played in numerous bands throughout his 40-year career, including Slayer, Grip Ink, Fantomas, Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle, Misfits, DJ Spooky, John Zorn, and Testament. The Grammy winner and "Cuban Speed Demon" has released his debut solo album, "Lights of Percussion. Dave Lombardo, one of modern music's most influential, innovative and prolific drummers, will release his debut solo album, Rites of Percussion, on Ipecac Recordings. Dave Lombardo, who has been a drummer for over a decade, says, "It was 1998 when (Mike) Patton gave me the idea, and Patton kept insisting that I had to make a drum album, that I had to make a drum album, that I had to make a drum album, that I had to make a drum album. So the idea had been in the works for years. I just needed to find the right time for me. When the pandemic happened, I knew I couldn't tour, so I started working on the record right away," Lombardo explains.The recording of this album, like the film score, had a simple mantra: drums must be drums. The album was mixed in early 2022 by Lombardo's son, David A. Lombardo. Large concert bass drums, timpani, grand piano, shakers, maracas, Chinese/symphonic gongs, Native American drums, congas, timbales, bongos, batas, wood blocks, djembes, ibos, darbuka, octobans, cajons, cymbals etc. are featured.
