Etched Carnelian beads were crafted during the Indus Valley Civilization. Designs were etched onto the carnelian using natron, a substance derived from plants, and then baked at low temperatures (around 300 to 400 degrees Celsius). These beads have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, but it is believed they were originally made in the Indus River region and transported via land and sea routes.
