What is a U-prong eternity ring? A U-prong (or shared-prong) setting holds each diamond between U-shaped metal arches, with adjacent diamonds sharing the same prong. The U-shape sits beneath the diamond rather than wrapping around it from above, exposing more of the stone and letting light enter from the sides and underneath. The result is maximum brilliance with minimal visible metal — a cleaner, more luminous look than a traditional claw setting.

Why is the U-prong setting more sparkly than a claw setting? The U-prong exposes more of each diamond's surface area than a traditional claw setting, allowing more light to enter and exit each stone. For round brilliants — which are cut specifically to maximise light return — this is the most flattering setting style. The result is noticeably more brilliance and fire across the entire band.
