The Osmose CE 49 is an expressive MIDI controllers built by Expressive E on the same keybed technology as the company's flagship Osmose synthesizer. Rather than replace your existing DAW and plugin setup, these controllers integrate into it, enabling per-note expression across pressure, pitch bend, vibrato, shake, strum, and note-off dynamics. The distinctive design philosophy centres on gestural control–bending notes within chords, adding vibrato directly from key contact, and shaping phrases with instrumental nuance–rather than relying on static parameters or menu diving.

Featuring a 49-keyexpressive keybed coupled with 7 assignable knobs/encoders, 9 buttons, and a 4.3" colour LCD for workflow integration. Connectivity spans USB-C, DIN MIDI in/out, and two pedal inputs; USB-C Power Delivery eliminates external supplies. The white aluminium top and black metal base house the keybed mechanism manufactured in Poland. Included is Ctrl-e, companion software bundling over 900 expressive presets and sound engines from Expressive E and partnered developers, all calibrated to respond naturally to the keybed's gestural vocabulary. The 49-key measures 89.5 cm wide and weighs 10 kg.

The Osmose CE bridges hardware and software workflows without requiring native MPE support from existing plugins or synths. Unique performance tools include a press glide gesture–sliding between notes via pressure rather than fixed portamento times–and an MPE arpeggiator that maintains note independence across chords in both MPE and standard MIDI modes. DAW integration is automatic for Ableton Live 12+, Cubase 15+, Bitwig 5+, and Logic Pro 12+, with smart transport controls, track/device navigation, and mixer access mapped directly to the interface.
